History of the Association


Created on 27 May 1989 and recognised as being of public benefit by a decree of 23 March 1993, the Georges Pompidou Association brings together for the main part, personalities who worked closely with the former President. It also has the support of academics and researchers.

The aim of the Association is to promote the study of changes in France during the sixties and the beginning of the seventies. It promotes, in particular, historical research on the works and personality of the former president of the French Republic. In this way it participates in the study of a key period in contemporary history.

Finally, The Georges Pompidou Association contributes to the development of the Georges Pompidou collection held in the Archives nationales by assembling the personal archives of those who worked closely with the president and, since 1993, via a programme of oral archives . The Association also supports scientific research through publications and the organisatio of symposia .
