In July 1999 the museum in memory of the President that the village in which he was born conserves

was inaugurated by Madame Georges Pompidou in the prescence of Mr Giscard d'Estaing.

This museum, which occupies a house situated in the centre of the village opposite the one in which he was born evokes first and foremost Georges Pompidou's relationshiop with the Cantal. The visitor is invited to follow a journey through a lively collection cotaining many photographs taken during official visits abroad or during election campaigns. On a more general note, approximately ten showcases contain souvenirs of both a typical family from the Auvergne region and objects linked to the functions exercised by Georges Pompidou the politician as well as several works of art, notably the original known portrait by Vasarély. At the end of the visit a film presents selected extracts from the President's speeches and declarations.

The whole is a decidedly modern presentation constituting both an evocation of contemporary history for adults and young people alike and a lesson in civic education.

Several thousand people have already made the visit to the Montboutif museum. It is run by the village council in collaboration with the “ association cantalienne Georges Pompidou” the smaller sister of the national association. It is presided over by doctor Pierre Raynal, the president's successor as member of parliament for Saint-Flour.
