Second President of the V Republic from 1969 to 1974, Georges Pompidou was a close associate of General de Gaulle as from 1944 and his Prime Minister from 1962 to 1968.

1911 Born in Monboudif (Cantal).
1931 Entered the Ecole normale supérieure .
1934 Graduated first in his year in agrégation de Lettres.
1935 First teaching post in Marseilles.
1938 Teacher at the Lycée Henri IV in Paris.
1944 Chargé de mission G.P.R.F. in the private office of General de Gaulle.
1953 Joined the Bank Rothschild.
1958 Chief of staff in General de Gaulle's private office. 1962 General de Gaulle's Prime Minister.
1969 President of the French Republic.
1974 Died in Paris.
